I Am Rea

About me

Hello & Welcome to my world!
My name is Andrea but I use Rea as a ‘stage-name‘.
I grew up in a small village in Hungary but I have always dreamt about ‘big city life’ so as soon as I had the chance I moved to the capital. Creativity has always been part of my life and my personality, and my childhood activities reflected this as well. I liked jewellery making, sewing or writing.

My painting journey started with a Painting by numbers kit as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. As soon as I grabbed the paintbrush and started filling up the canvas the external world ceased to exist and a whole new one came to life. Painting is my safe place, my shelter where everyday problems cannot move in. There is only me and the colors.

I have quickly realized that I cannot resonate with conventional styles and techniques so I began my journey to find my own vibes. I have spent a lot of time exploring different approaches and know-hows and you know what? It’s a neverending expedition! The world is full of exciting and delightful stuff that worth knowing and seeing!

One thing is certain: the style where I feel the deepest freedom is abstract. Randomly playing with colors and forms is so liberating! I just let my mind freely lead my hand without rules or restrictions.

Besides abstract brushstrokes my signature style is characterized by the use of leftover/unutilized textiles that make my pieces special and uncommon. The funny thing is that I have never thought about textiles as a painting material until a spring cleaning when I realized how many clothes we have in our wardrobe that we have not used for years! I didn’t want to drop them in trash so I started thinking about alternative ways to reuse them. And suddenly the light turned on above my head: painting! Use them for painting! Obviously I spent days and weeks with digging deep into methods and techniques about how to use textile on canvas but finally I came across the one that best fits for me. What is really amazing in this process is uniqueness! Letting the fabric independently moving on the canvas leads to unrepeatable, one of a kind creations.
It’s a great feeling to do small steps towards recycling and sustainability while my creative energies emerge on an even higher level.
